Full Description
The Cooker Guard helps elderly and vulnerable people to live independently and safely at home and provides reassurance to their relatives and carers.
It automatically turns off the cooker if they walk away from the cooker and unintentionally leave it on. The Cooker Guard kicks in before the temperature gets too high or when the pre-set time has elapsed. The Cooker Guard does not return to a standby setting unless someone comes and turns off the cooker.
The Cooker Guard’s temperature detector only monitors the heat coming off the hot plates, however, the timer applies to both the hot plates and the oven, allowing a cooking time of between 10 minutes and two hours depending on how it has been set.
Extreme temperature detectors like the Cooker Guard sound a local alarm when the temperature is too high or when the time is up. The colour of the LED light on the heat detection sensor also indicates the cooker's temperature level. For safety reasons, if the cooker turns off due to high temperature, the Cooker Guard cannot be reset before the cooling down period has expired. The cooling down period is the time that the cooker needs to go back to a lower temperature required for safe use. This time varies between 2 and 18 minutes depending on the cooker.
A qualified electrician is required to install the Cooker Guard.
