Low Vision Products and Aids
Low vision aids can support people with sight loss who wish to live independently. There is now a wide range of visually impaired products or vision aids currently available. While living independently, those with sight loss find that many of the low vision products available help them to live a normal life. One important factor in contributing to a normal life for those suffering sight loss is being able to keep track of the time.
Traditional timepieces based on an analogue or digital display are not suitable for those with sight loss. Adjusting the time and alarm settings on clocks can also be fiddly. However, some low vision products for timekeeping give spoken prompts to assist you when adjusting the time settings. Also, some special low vision aids can give automatic hourly time announcements, while other low vision devices also read out the date. Clocks with a tactile face are another example of visually impaired aids.
Some low vision aids also cater for the deaf blind such as alarm clocks with a vibrating pad that can be placed under a pillow to wake you when the alarm goes off. By the simple addition of some low vision aids or vision impaired products to their home, those experiencing sight loss shouldn't need to slow down. If you or someone you care for is starting to struggle with impaired vision, look into the array of low vision products that have been designed to meet their needs.
